How we pick the best of Birmingham

1. We start with locals

Lists begin with recommendations from Birmingham residents, reader suggestions, and the places that keep coming up in local conversation.

2. We check the facts

Before a spot goes on a list we confirm it's open, check its address, menu and hours against its own website or listing, and look at recent coverage and reviews.

3. We rank on quality and consistency

Rankings weigh how good the core thing is (the brisket, the espresso, the beer), how consistent it is, and what makes it distinctly Birmingham. Hype alone doesn't count.

4. Money never changes a ranking

No business can pay to be included, removed or moved up. If we ever run sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled and kept separate from our rankings.

5. We keep lists current
